Psalm 139:1-7: Trust

"God is everywhere. He is always present. While difficult to understand, we believe this to be true." by Lt. Colonel Thomas Bowers

God is everywhere. He is always present. While difficult to understand, we believe this to be true. Our inability to sense His presence in no way affects the reality of His presence.

How does this certainly make us feel? Our answer is guided by a few things:

Our perspective of God.

In one sense, we understand that God is holy and pure. He will not tolerate sin in His kingdom. Scripture is clear, sin will not go unpunished. We all sin and fall short. That’s scary.

Alternatively, we understand God’s love, forgiveness, mercy and grace. Confidence in our loving Father’s presence should bring tremendous comfort to each of us, no matter the circumstances.

Do we trust Him?

Trust is paramount. Too many of us spend our time trying to please God or others rather than trusting Him.

Trusting vs. Pleasing

  • Motive – Pleasing God
  • Value – Striving to be all God wants me to be
  • Action – Working on my sin to achieve an intimate relationship with God
  • Motive – Trusting God
  • Value – Living out of who God says I am
  • Action – Standing with God, with my sin in front of us, working on it together

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will direct your paths.

Proverbs 3:5,6 (NIV)

Prayer

Lord teach me to trust. Amen.
